We’ve scheduled three dates this Fall, listed below. Between October 28 and November 18, eleven of our Global Youth Leaders are participating in an interactive virtual exchange with Korean youth. The virtual exchange is a collaboration between Aurora Sister Cities International and the Seongnam City Youth Foundation and is in its third year. On Saturday November 12, ASCI hosted a Youth Health and Self-empowerment workshop aimed at growing youth self-esteem and self-empowerment. ASCI’s 2022 mental health-focused workshops come as the result of ongoing student feedback, as well as in response to the loss of one of our youth in 2020. Thank you to instructor and author Hailima Yates for facilitating the November workshop. And thank you especially to our amazing youth participants who took time out of their Saturdays to take a deeper dive into self-reflection, a true leadership quality.

Aurora Sister Cities Receives Grant from WEND Collective

We are honored to share that Aurora Sister Cities International’s Global Youth Leaders Pipeline program is the recipient of a $30,000 grant from the WEND Collective which will help ensure current and future success of the program. Global Youth Leaders (GYL) engages disadvantaged youth in Aurora, a city known in Colorado for its large global population. Students at Aurora Central and Hinkley high schools—as well as every school in our city—have the right to feel safe in schools, parks and neighborhoods. COVID Equity Clinic in Aurora Kicks Off!

On February 27th Aurora Sister Cities partnered with The Havana Business Improvement District, the City of Aurora and the NAACP to host an equity vaccination clinic.  The Medicine Clinic for Health Equity/Colorado Alliance for Health Equity and Practice alongside the Colorado Primary Care Clinic staff administered 400 vaccines and will be returning on March 27th to provide the second inoculation to patients.  As this clinic served a wide range of ethnicities and cultures, volunteer interpreters provided assistance in over 20 different languages ranging from Spanish, Amharic, Korean, Mandarin, Turkish, Azerbaijani, Farsi, Somali and American Sign Language. The Global Youth Leaders program went virtual this summer, providing a brand new curriculum designed to effectively engage students online while also imparting the core concepts of our service-learning and civic participation model. Global Youth Leaders Volunteer More than 200 Hours During COVID-19!

At the February 10th, 2020 Aurora City Council Meeting, Mayor Mike Coffman presented the ten local student delegates who attended the 2019 Seongnam City International Youth Conference in Korea with official letters of recognition.  Mayor Coffman noted their participation at the youth conference which discussed relevant global issues and the future of the job market.  The ten student delegates exchanged ideas and resolutions with students from Korea, Japan, South Africa and Germany during the conference.  Congratulations on representing Aurora on a global scale! Global Youth Leaders Volunteer at Comcast Cares Day 2019

On Saturday May 4th a group of 20 Global Youth Leaders and volunteers from Aurora Sister Cities participated in the annual Comcast Cares Day.  We helped 100 other volunteers resurface the trail at the Plains Conservation Center.  Volunteers moved 320 tons of rock and gravel to make the trail more accessible for visitors who come to the Plains Conservation Center to learn about early pioneer life and view wildlife. We’d like to thank Comcast for creating opportunities for residents to give back to their communities and for hosting us!
