An event was held on Monday, July 21st at 6pm to award certificates and encourage students selected for the youth exchange program between Aurora City and its sister city, Seongnam City, Korea.
It was held at Aurora City Hall.
This event was designed to promote cultural exchange and friendship between youth between Aurora City and Seongnam City, and was a success with students, guides, and families attending.
The Seongnam City Youth Exchange Program, now in its 4th year, runs from August 1 to 9.
It lasts for 9 days and is for 14-year-olds in Aurora City.
Ten youth between the ages of 18 are selected to participate. Students selected for this exchange program will participate in various cultural experiences and exchange activities in Seongnam City, and will be accompanied by two guides.
Students participating in this trip must pay their own airfare of $2,100, but the ASCI-Korea Committee will support the remaining travel costs of approximately $1,000 per student, and airfare assistance scholarships are also provided depending on need and grades. . In particular, three students from Costa Rica who wish to participate in this program will be guaranteed interviews and will be given priority consideration if they require scholarship support.
At the event, Aurora City Mayor Michael Coffman and City Council member Crystal Murillo awarded certificates to the students, congratulated them on their accomplishments, and delivered messages of encouragement. Mayor Coffman said, “This program will be a great opportunity for youth and will serve as an opportunity to further strengthen the trust and friendship between Aurora City and Seongnam City.” He added, “I believe this experience will greatly aid the students’ personal and professional growth, and I hope they will continue to contribute to their leadership and community service in the future.”
Jennifer Kim, co-chair of the Aurora Ja Mado City Korea Committee, who attended the welcoming ceremony, said, “This program will be a great opportunity for youth, and will serve as an opportunity to further strengthen the trust and friendship between Aurora City and Seongnam City.”
In particular, the students selected for this program could not hide their expectations about visiting Korea. One student said, “I’m really excited to go to Korea, meet new friends, and experience different cultures.” Another student said, “I am very happy that I will be able to learn more about Korea and broaden my horizons through this exchange program.”
This exchange program provides young people with a valuable opportunity to broaden their global horizons and experience diverse cultures, and is expected to play a significant role in strengthening friendly relations between the two cities. We hope that all participating students will learn a lot and gain new experiences through this program.
Ten students participating in this program will represent the United States from Aurora, and students from Sweden, Austria, Japan, and Vietnam will also participate.
This exchange program with students from various countries will play a significant role in strengthening international friendship and cooperation.
