On August 12th, 2020 the Korean Seniors Association will be presenting Aurora Sister Cities International with a check for $3,000 to support scholarships for students participating in our exchange program with Aurora’s sister city in Korea. Every other year in the Fall, Seongnam City hosts an Asia Pacific Youth Leadership Conference. Since its inception in 2017, ASCI has sent a total of 23 Aurora and Centennial youth delegates to that conference. Many financials barriers have been eliminated for Aurora students due to the generosity of individual donors and donors like the Korean Seniors Association. While the COVID crisis may impact travel in the near future, ASCI plans to continue both in-person and virtual exchange activities with our partners in Seongnam City many years into the future. Student testimonials about the trip reflect what a life-changing experience this has been for them.
The Korean Seniors Association donated $3,000 in 2019 and the gift will be recurring annually. The Korean Senior Citizens Association (KSCA) was established in 1985. On March 15, 1993, the KSCA purchased a senior center in Aurora with the assistance from the City of Aurora. In 2019, the KSCA gifted its first donation of $3,000 to Aurora Sister Cities International (ASCI) for the youth students participating at the Seongnam Asia Pacific Youth Conference in the Republic of Korea.
