Join us May 3- Sept. 11, 2016! Aurora is home to a vibrant Ethiopian population, comprised of people from diverse ethnic, linguistic and religious backgrounds. With their varied cultures, differing identities and many contributions these communities have impacted Aurora in numerous ways. Please join the Aurora History Museum and Aurora Sister Cities International from May 3-September 11, 2016 as we celebrate the heritage and contributions of our Ethiopian-born residents through the exhibit A Mosaic of Cultures: Aurora’s Ethiopian Communities.
The exhibit will showcase ethnic art, costume and cultural items and feature interviews and photo displays, giving voice to Ethiopian-born residents living, working and owning businesses in Aurora. A series of events will accompany the exhibit at the Aurora History Museum and throughout Aurora, including coffee ceremony displays, a film screening, an academic lecture, and dance performances at the city of Aurora’s annual Global Fest. Stay tuned for more information!
A Mosaic of Cultures is the first of 3-5 proposed exhibits to take place over the next five years that will focus on Aurora’s diaspora communities.
