Aurora Sister Cities International Welcomes New Chief Executive Officer

Aurora, CO – May 27, 2025 – Aurora Sister Cities International (ASCI) proudly announces the appointment of Samuel Gebremichael as its new Chief Executive Officer. Originally from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, he has lived in Colorado since 2007 where he has been a passionate community organizer, software developer, and global connector.

Samuel holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science, an associate’s degree in technology, multiple IT certifications, and has completed leadership training with the African Leadership Group. Fifteen years of experience in media and communications — including as an editor and computer instructor in Ethiopia — gives a rich, intercultural perspective to his work. He has also served in various software, IT, and customer service positions.

Samuel is currently the Chair of the Aurora Immigrant and Refugee Commission (AIRC) and previously served as Executive Director of the Colorado Ethiopian Community. In these roles he has led large-scale cultural and educational programs, strengthened organizational financial sustainability, built strategic alliances, and collaborated extensively with volunteers.

He is deeply committed to ASCI’s mission of promoting cultural exchange, educational partnerships, and economic cooperation through city-to-city relationships that link Aurora with communities around the world.

Sister cities include Adama, Ethiopia; Chihuahua; Mexico; and Seongnam City, South Korea. Patan, Nepal, is the new friendship city.
