Deadline to apply: March 8, 2019. The Pacific Rim Cultural Exchange and Aurora Sister Cities International invite Aurora and metro-area high school students to apply to participate in a 6-day cultural experience and history program in Hiroshima, Japan. Deadline to apply is Friday March 8th, 2019.
In partnership with The Pacific Rim Cultural Exchange Program, Aurora Sister Cities International invites you to apply for a unique travel opportunity to Japan! High School students (grades 9th through 12th) are eligible to join this cultural and historical tour in Hiroshima, Japan which will expose them to the Japanese language, culture and history. Students will travel with a group of peers from Reno, Nevada for this 6-day, 7-night experience.
The tour immerses students into Japanese culture by providing Japanese language classes, cultural classes, and historical education. Sightseeing includes several UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the Himeji Castle, the Toji Temple, Inari-Shrine, a day trip to Kyoto as well as a tour of the beautiful island of Miyajima, which is one of the top scenic spots in Japan.
Students depart on Monday June 3rd and return Tuesday June 11th, 2019. The fee is $3,500.00 and it includes airfare, accommodations in dorms, food, transportation in Japan as well as English-speaking guides and chaperones. In order to offset the $3,500.00 cost of the trip, Aurora Sister Cities International plans on fundraising to provide partial scholarships for two local youth who choose to participate in the trip. In order to be considered for the program and the scholarship, the application form is due to Jana Clark, Program Coordinator at Aurora Sister Cities International, by Friday March 8th, 2019. Potential participants selected will be interviewed and the two final participants will be notified of their acceptance and partial scholarship by Monday March 25th, 2019. Additional waivers, releases and information will need to be provided and signed by the two students chosen to participate.
