On Saturday, December 8th, 20 ASCI Global Youth Leaders and 7 parents helped Aurora Warms the Night with the following projects:
- Move 50 sets of furniture (one set included a bed, mattress, dresser, night stand, safe, lamp and headboard) down one to two flights of stairs and into sleeping cubicles.
- Assemble beds.
- Move staff desks, filing cabinets, and furniture into offices.
- Move and arrange furniture in community living spaces.
- Interacted with individuals experiencing homelessness who will be moving into the facility today!
Due to the efforts of these amazing youth and parents, we helped Aurora Warms the Night’s new program, Ready to Work, catch up on needed tasks so that they can open on time. Fifty homeless individuals will be able to move into the new facility and have access to safe housing, job placement supports and mental health services. The Global Youth Leaders program is designed to give youth the skills and competencies to act as global leaders, entrepreneurs, ambassadors, and pursue higher education opportunities. If you are interested in participating as a Global Youth Leader, email Jana Clark (jclark@auroragov.org) for more information. Camp dates for 2019 will be announced soon!
