Recent events have showcased the systemic racism that has plagued our nation for far too long. The violent and senseless deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other black and brown members of our communities, have moved many of us to a point we believe change is not an option. Instead, we are at a pivot point here in our country where we have the opportunity to transform our institutions in a way in which all members of our society can go about their lives in peace rather than fear.
Aurora Sister Cities International is an organization dedicated to bringing individuals and communities together through exchange and shared cooperation while growing leaders that can transcend borders to overcome life’s biggest challenges. As an organization that fosters peace, cooperation, volunteerism and learning through best practices exchange, our mission is now more important than ever. And, we are committed to elevating our commitment to social justice and reform.
Now is not the time for us to remain silent. Now is the time for us to lean in and open up dialogue around what is happening in our cities. We stand in solidarity with our Black community and we will continue to promote peace, respect and mutual understanding within our local communities and with our sister cities around the world.
